Want to grow a big, responsive email list full of people who actually want to buy your products?

Here’s how to do it without paying for ads… hiring help… or spending 10+ hours a day dancing like an idiot on social media for followers.

Dear Friend,

A few months back, I got an email from a frustrated email subscriber.

This subscriber launched an ecomm brand and had a well-designed site with a number of great products.

The only thing was…

She had a really tiny email list.

And no matter what she tried… her list just didn’t seem to grow.

She told me that they tried paid ads… she tried sponsoring well-known influencers… she tried posting a bunch of content on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok.

Despite this…

Nothing was happening.

Her list wasn’t growing.

And she was frustrated as all hell.

If that wasn’t frustrating enough, she felt like she was drinking from a firehose with all the conflicting advice out there.

At the time of our conversation, she was doing her best to gear up for Black Friday and Cyber Monday… but she was feeling a little defeated.

Here’s what she said:

===

“How the hell do I plan for it Black Friday and Cyber Monday with my 200 email subscribers that don’t open jack shit? And it’s not even October yet and I already can’t afford Fb ads. Hello?

Completely at a loss for what to do. Is it just going to be this grind until it won’t? what is it going to take?

I am quickly losing steam.

Started with a dream and something I loved doing and it has become a chore, a burden, a source of so much stress and disappointment. I know that I am not amazing at any of these individual elements yet, but I know that I am not god awful.

I just never thought that the scaling part would be this impossible.

What am I missing? Mentors? I know. What amazing entrepreneur is going to take a stab at this deep shit?

And the amount of information that is coming at me via podcasts and “trainings” and “emails” has become virtually indigestible.

Implementing any of that awesome advice and the latest techniques, tips, tricks, systems takes a thousand times longer and is way harder to do well than anyone ever tells you it would because LEARNING CURVE.

Ok. I am done. Call it a pity party, a cry for help. whatever. I don’t care.

If you have any words of wisdom other than going to therapy, please do tell.”

===

You have to believe me when I tell you this…

I felt like this for the first two years when I was trying to build my email list.

In fact, for the first year when I had less than 100 email subscribers… I felt this pain DAILY.

It kept me awake at night.

It is absolutely infuriating when you’re working your ass off and you’re only moving forward one inch at a time.

It SUCKS.

And you know what?

I wanna help this person… and any other business owners who are in the same boat.

It is a big problem if your list isn’t growing.

It’s like trying to drive a car with the e-brake on.

No amount of “email marketing training” is going to help much if you don’t even have a list (or have a list that’s way too small).

I guess I never realized this was something I should talk about more.

But…

I’m willing to teach you what I know and the things I’ve done not only to grow my own lists… but also to help my clients.

Of course, I’m not a paid traffic expert. But I have grown an incredibly engaged list, starting from nothing… without spending a DIME in traffic for a majority of my list-building life.

Growing an email list can be hard.

Here’s how to make it a little easier…

Years ago I read an article that changed the way I thought about growing my business, forever.

It was called 1,000 True Fans by Kevin Kelly.

Kevin’s theory was that as a creator, as long as you had 1,000 True Fans who would buy anything you put out, you could live an awesome life doing what you love.

  • To be a successful creator you don’t need millions. You don’t need millions of dollars or millions of customers, millions of clients or millions of fans. To make a living as a craftsperson, photographer, musician, designer, author, animator, app maker, entrepreneur, or inventor you need only thousands of true fans. A true fan is defined as a fan that will buy anything you produce. These diehard fans will drive 200 miles to see you sing; they will buy the hardback and paperback and audible versions of your book; they will purchase your next figurine sight unseen; they will pay for the “best-of” DVD version of your free youtube channel; they will come to your chef’s table once a month. If you have roughly a thousand true fans like this (also known as super fans), you can make a living — if you are content to make a living but not a fortune. – Kevin Kelly

This sounded great.

All I needed was 1,000 True Fans and I could have the leverage I needed to quit my day job, run my business, and provide for my family.

The only problem was…

I literally had 55 subscribers on my email list at the time. And that was a problem.

Obviously, I was a long way away from having my own 1,000 True Fans.

I started to wonder:

“How long will this take me to attract these 1,000 True Fans?”

Probably years.

That doesn’t mean it’s not a worthy pursuit. It totally is. It’s just that it’ll probably take most creators at least a decade to achieve this goal, maybe longer.

Sure, there are ways to ‘hack’ this process.

You can use paid traffic.

But when I was just getting started building my email list, I didn’t have money for paid traffic. On top of that, I didn’t have a funnel or a huge product catalog. And even if I DID have these things… I had no idea what the hell I was doing when it came to running ads to people who never heard of me before.

Like most creators, I was in a pickle.

I needed to grow my email list so that I could grow my business.

After all…

The money is in the list. Everybody knows that. You’ve heard people say that before.

But how do you grow your list when you’re just starting out?

How do you grow your list if you’re starting from scratch?

What do you do if you only have 271 email subscribers and you’re not making enough to hire a traffic person?

I was in this exact situation.

It took me a long time and a lot of trial and error. But eventually, after trying enough things… my list started to grow.

At first, it was slow.

There’d be some days when I’d get four new subscribers in a day. Then the next day… crickets.

Still, I pressed on.

I kept experimenting with different list-building strategies and eventually I started to pick up steam.

And I was happy, at first.

But then, I had another painful realization…

Subscribers are nice. But unless I started attracting CUSTOMERS, I’m going to have a very hard time paying my bills.

It wasn’t until years later when I was on an email marketing panel at the Inbox 2020 event where I heard one of the other speakers sum up this subtle shift every creator needs to make.

In one sentence, this other presenter (email marketing legend Paul Mort) verbalized one of the most profound list-building insights I’d ever heard.

  • I’m not trying to build an email list. I’m trying to build a BUYERS list.

That hit me right between the eyes.

I felt that, viscerally.

It confirmed the suspicions I had for a long time. I’d just never been able to put it into words like that before.

There’s tons of list-building gurus who will teach you how to build a bigger list. And sure, if you have 14 subscribers, you obviously need to increase your list size.

But list size isn’t the only thing that matters.

It’s also the WHO.

These are real people.

And out of the 7 billion+ people in this world, not everyone is going to fit into the bucket YOUR people. Your picture-perfect-customer.

Different bait attracts different fish.

One of my buddies owns a fast-growing e-commerce business that’s currently doing $300,000/month in sales and growing month over month. One day we were talking about list growth.

He told me that he didn’t put any effort at all into a lot of the traditional list-building strategies the gurus teach.

He’s focused on ONLY attracting the right kind of people into his business, the kind of people who want to buy his brand’s products.

He doesn’t want freebie seekers.

He doesn’t want people who are going to be headaches.

He’s looking for a very particular kind of CUSTOMER.

Those are the people he creates for.

His list size doesn’t really matter.

What matters is its composition.

1,000 True Fans is hard. But 1,000 Happy Customers is attainable.

When I started crunching the numbers in my own business, I thought about what I’d have to do in order to actually get to 1,000 True Fans.

What would I have to do to get 1,000 true fans into my business who bought EVERYTHING I ever put out?

How many email subscribers would I have to get in order to sift out the 1,000 people who would buy every product I ever released?

10,000 subscribers?

50,000 subscribers?

100,000 subscribers?

More?

I know over the course of my life as an entrepreneur, I will definitely attract my 1,000 True Fans. There’s no doubt in my mind. And I know YOU will, too.

But in the meantime…

What if you just focused on getting to 1,000 Happy Customers?

What if you just focused on getting 1,000 different people to buy something from you?

How would that transform your life?

You wouldn’t need a monstrous list.

You wouldn’t need a complex system of funnels.

You wouldn’t need to publish a million pieces of content.

You wouldn’t need to get an MBA in paid traffic.

You wouldn’t need to lay awake at night, stressing over the fact that your list isn’t growing as fast as you’d like it to be.

Instead…

You could wake up each day and check your email software and not only see a dozen (or two dozen) new email subscribers each and every day… you’d know that a large portion of them are actually going to buy something from you.

You could use a handful of simple strategies to grow your list faster, and ensure you’re attracting the RIGHT kind of ‘future customers’ into your business.

You could build yourself a flywheel… where after a while, your list just grows and grows, without any active effort on your part.

That’s kind of nice.

And while it might sound like a dream… I can assure you, it’s not as hard as you might think.

Introducing…

1,000 Happy Customers

I created this short course to help e-commerce brand owners, freelancers, and copywriters (and anyone else who’s trying to grow their list) to start attracting more ‘future customers’ onto their email list… without spending any money on ads.

I know you might think your business is different, but it’s not.

If you sell stuff online – whether it’s a physical product through your e-commerce store, or you’re a service provider who sells high ticket services – the rules of the game are all the same.

Over the years, I’ve managed to grow an incredibly responsive list for myself.

On top of that, I’ve worked with ‘big brands’ who spend between $8,000 – $15,000/day on paid advertising to generate leads and grow their followings.

I’ve also worked with mid-level e-commerce brands who have asked for help not only with their emails but also with strategies to turn more of their visitors and customers into loyal, raving fans who buy over and over again.

I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t.

I’m NOT the world’s foremost expert on list growth. This course is NOT going to get you 100,000+ subscribers by tomorrow morning.

I’m just a guy who’s sat in your chair… and has managed to go from where you are now, to exactly where you want to be: an owner of a list that generates tens of thousands of dollars worth of revenue every single month, without fail.

I’m going to shoot you straight.

There will be some work involved.

If you’re not paying for ads, you’ll pay for your subscribers with sweat equity.

This is the only way.

But this course will help you grow your list, a lot faster (and more predictably) than you could on your own.

Here’s What’s Included in 1,000 Happy Customers

This is a four-week coaching sprint where I’m going to help you grow your email list fast.

The best part?

You won’t have to spend a dime on paid advertising. In fact, every strategy I show you is going to be an “organic” method for growing your email list.

Once inside, I’ll show you how to figure out who your ideal ‘future customers’ are. I’ll show you how to create the right kind of ‘bait’ to attract these people onto your list. I’ll show you all of the specific strategies and tactics to not only surface these people… but to get them onto your list (and make them HAPPY to be there, actively looking forward to your emails.) And I’ll show you how to turn these ‘future customers’ into real, paying customers through your list-building efforts.

You’ll get an invite to four live coaching sessions where I’ll be teaching the content. At the end of each session, there will be time for Q&A where you can get your list-building questions answered.

Who is 1,000 Happy Customers For?

Some of the questions I’ve gotten about this course are:

“Is this just for e-commerce brands?”

“Will this work for me if I sell ___?”

“What if I’m a copywriter/service provider?”

Here’s the deal…

List building is list-building. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you sell. Everything I show you in this course will be applicable to your business.

Your list isn’t going to grow on accident.

It’ll grow when you IMPLEMENT the stuff I show you in this course.

On top of that, I’m a big believer in teaching with examples. I’ve made sure to include examples of these strategies in action for multiple kinds of businesses.

I’m going to show you how to use this method for growing an e-commerce brand’s list. I’m going to show you how to use this method for growing a copywriter’s list. I’m going to show you to use this method for many different types of businesses.

At the end of the day, if you want a bigger, more responsive email list… this course is for you.

How much is 1,000 Happy Customers?

If you were to run paid ads to grow your email list you’d wind up paying an agency or ad manager at least $1,000/month.

Then you’d pay anywhere between $1 – $10 lead, depending on your performance and targeting.

At a minimum, you’d likely shell out anywhere from $2,000 – $11,000 to get another 1,000 email subscribers. And they probably wouldn’t all be “future customers.”

You’d probably get a lot of junk leads in that group.

Not to mention…

You’d also spend dozens of hours testing, tweaking, and agonizing over your ads performance… trying to get things right.

Here’s something to consider…

If you could get another 1,000 customers into your business, how much would that be worth to you?

How much could you earn if you were able to attract another 1,000 buyers in the next 6-12 months?

I bet it’d be a lot.

I want to help you make this happen. I want to show you the way.

And I wanted you to be able to get an insane return on your investment in this program.
